PRODUCT OVERVIEW

product description

The last great master of the ukiyo-e tradition of woodcut prints in Japan, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) produced landscapes, flowers, and birds of outstanding beauty in such series as The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido and The Sixty-Nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido. His work was a revelation to European artists of the Impressionist and post-Impressionist era, and Vincent van Gogh in particular painted copies of Hiroshige's prints. Boasting outstanding color reproductions on nearly every page, this art book is both affordable and compact (measuring just under 7? inches square) yet offers a surprisingly wide-ranging survey of this important Japanese artist, with an introductory essay, titles, and captions in six languages.
